Farmers from Koppal and Vijayanagara districts announced an indefinite protest demanding the release of water from the Tungabhadra reservoir to the Vijayanagara canal system. Farmers said adequate canal water was essential for protecting crops and meeting agricultural and drinking-water needs in the region.
